About Biocides
A biocidal product is a substance or mixture with the intention of controlling harmful organisms, by any means other than mere physical or mechanical action, and that is not intended to be used on plants or plant products.

Biocides are chemical or biological substances that are used to control harmful organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, insects or rodents. They are an essential part of public health, hygiene, agriculture and industrial processes and are found in products such as disinfectants, preservatives, pesticides and antifouling agents. In distinction of plant protection products, biocidal products are not intended for the use on plants or plant products, and they must meet different authorisation criteria.
These products are targeted against living organisms, therefore biocidal products pose risks for humans, animals and the environment. Safety is ensured by a complex registration process before the products can be placed on the market.
